Climbing Gym Manager

📍 564 Tathra Road, Kalaru NSW 2550 Full Time

The Climbing Hub

Gravity House is Bega Valley's first indoor climbing gym. We're opening in November 2026. We've been building this with the valley for over a year, with 650+ people following along.

We need someone to run it.

The Location

Kalaru in Bega Valley, NSW. 5 minutes from Tathra beach. Good surf. Some of the best MTB trails in the state on your doorstep.

The kind of place people choose to live on purpose.

The Role

You'll be the face of the gym. Reporting directly to the founders, you'll own the daily operation and set the tone for everything that happens inside.

You'll manage operations, culture, safety, and quality. All at once.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a new business where you will need to be highly organised, self-driven, and constantly looking for ways to improve services, processes, and the overall customer experience.

We are also building a team around this role over time. This will likely include roles such as community manager, ground staff, and other support crew as the gym grows. As such, we're looking for a Gym Manager who can help shape and scale the team from the ground up.

What you'll own:

  • Daily operations: opening, closing, safety checks, cleaning schedules, equipment
  • Customer experience: from a first-time visitor's visit to long-term member relationships
  • Team: rostering, training, and building a culture people want to be part of
  • Safety and compliance: bouldering protocols, incident response, first aid
  • Quality: the walls, the space, the atmosphere

You will be properly onboarded and supported by the founders. While this is a high-ownership role, you will not be on your own. There will always be guidance available when needed, especially in the early stages as we build the systems and rhythm together.

Who We Are Looking For

You're a people person. You remember names. You notice who is new and make them feel welcome. You check in on the quiet climber who came alone last week. You guide first-timers through their first climbs, encourage nervous beginners, and help experienced climbers feel at home. You create an environment where people feel safe, seen, and supported.

A hospitality background is a real plus. You know what good service actually looks like, and you care about it.

You're passionate about community and health. Climbing experience is a bonus. You need to believe in what we're building: a space where the valley comes to move and belong.

You're comfortable with a small team and a new business. You'd rather build the culture than inherit one.

You're probably right for this if:

  • People genuinely come first for you
  • You've managed a team before, even a small one
  • You've worked in hospitality, fitness, leisure, or customer-facing retail
  • You think about culture deliberately, not as an afterthought
  • The phrase "opening day" gives you energy
